Godfather of Dancehall, Sugar Minott, dead at 54 ___________May 25, 1956 – July 10, 2010 RIP

The man who wrote one of the anthems of the 1980's - and, for the poor people of the world, all time - 'Hard Time Pressure', died recently. We will be respectin his memory and what he gave us with a radio show, comin' soon . ***

Sugar Minott, who was born Lincoln Barrington Minott on May 25, 1956, earned for himself the moniker Godfather of Dancehall. He is credited with being the pioneer, who, by laying vocal tracks over the original tapes from the '60's, rather than using a live band -- as was the norm in those days -- caused a revolution in the sound that brought a new style to Reggae music known as Dancehall.

MIKEY DREAD 1954 - 2008

FRIDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2007; TRIP-TEAM DJ's @ THE MONTAGUE ARMS

Another gig at the famous Montague Arms - recently saved from the clutches of Lewisham Council and their friends, ie. property developers and corporate interests. The only REAL remaining, untouched-by-yuppie-makeover MUSIC PUB in South-East London, the venue is worth checking out to see something authentic; a pub run by a local family which is the repository for all the quirky objects from the old Dockland pubs of ancient Deptford. Not only that, but there is a 70's PA which pumps out a pretty good sound if the band can actually play !

It's also possible to promote a night there without being a Camden-twat or some trust-fund wannabe . . .so get down there and get rockin' . . .

Tyrone Thomas & the Olympic Clamp Down gig at The Montague Arms, 31st August 2007 along with 2 other bands - Rum Circus and Lefthand .

The 'DJ' is apparently someone plugging their i-pod into the PA - don't MP3's sound a bit wierd when you play them loud ? No mid-range?

Oh well, should be a good night anyway . . .you can always wear your own i-pod in-between the bands . . .so CHECK IT OUT !!!

Good to see The Montague Arms is back in business again - the pub itself is worth a visit, it's probably the last REAL and longest running MUSIC PUB in this part of South East London

MONTAGUE ARMS, New Cross, 289 Queens Road, SE15

Video Artist Dave Eyre (VJflickeringlight) has transformed one of our early tunes, recorded with Geezer in the late 90's with Tony Hippolyte on vocals and Tyrone on guitar . . .dark, dark, dark! WE KNOW THE NIGHT animation can be found at

SATURDAY FEB 3rd 2007 10-6

Was a really good night, Fil from BTTP's set was great, especially the last two numbers; great 70's reggae and dub sounds from the Trip Team, followed by Sean's stompin electro beats. The rarely-heard LS Diezel didn't turn up sadly, but the graffitti artist, the light shows (up and down) were stunning, and other cracking dj's, the bar staff and the general vibe made it one not to have missed!!!!

2 floors of flat-out entertainment for 8 hours. . . !!! For a fiver! That's South London at it's best!
